Ashton Keynes is a picturesque village in Wiltshire, close to the historic market town of Cirencester, "The Capital of the Cotswolds", and the Saxon village of South Cerney.
Ashton Keynes is situated about five miles south of Cirencester. The infant River Thames makes an appearance in the village and runs beside the entire length of the main street. The houses on this street are reached by crossing small footbridges. The increasingly popular Cotswold Water Park is just a stones throw away so if you are in the area, why not pay Ashton Keynes and its surroundings a visit. The Pre-School Committee created ‘Project Fresh Air’ in January 2008 and has already enjoyed some success in fundraising for the new play safe flooring and equipment. Located at Ashton Keynes Village Hall, AK Pre-School volunteer parents have already extended the outside area and erected new fencing and have had new flooring laid. The committee are now in the process of securing planning permission to erect a permanent shelter. “With a very generous £5k donation from North Wilts District Council we have already installed the flooring” commented Sharon Gater, Chair of the 2008 Committee. “We are also in the planning stages of our Summer Food Fayre to raise further funds which we will put towards the cost of the shelter” she continued. Lead by Sharon, the Committee have already held a very successful Pop Quiz raising almost £1400. Also they are in the process of applying for various grants. “The Ashton Keynes Parish Council have pledged a sum of money to make up any short fall in the funding” continued Sharon. “To be honest we have been overwhelmed at the generosity of donations. Not only in terms of hard cash, but all the items for the auction held at our Pop Quiz and for Summer Food Fayre. And of course we should not to forget the committee members and their family’s time and hard work in organising everything from the events to erecting fences and shifting gravel!” The Pre-School Summer Food Fayre will be held in the grounds of Cove House, Ashton Keynes on 6th July at 2pm.
